The Bisto brand was Launched by Cerebos Ltd in 1910 with the slogan Browns Seasons, thickens in one. The Bisto Kids were introduced in 1919 and created by the famous cartoonist Wilf Owen as a depiction of post war depression. With their cast-off, cut down clothes, their endearing mischievousness made them an instant hit and by the 1920s and 30s they became cult figures alongside the'forgettable 'Ah! BISTO' slogan. They were phased out in the 1950s when their appearance began to seem out of place but were reintroduced in 1976 in up to the minute clothes and appeared for the first time in an animated form. They were finally retired from advertising in 1989- however the 'Ah! BISTO' strap line (which features in the new ad) was re-introduced again.
