This gloriously attired Romany all lilac hues and floral motifs across her hat, shawl, apron, and full-length dress - has baskets of brightly colored crocuses to sell. Romany Sue is a Royal Doulton classic brought vividly back to life. The original figure was designed by Leslie Harradine and produced from 1936 to 1949 During the 19th century, street vendors were a common sight in towns and cities. With their bright and cheerful wares balloons, flowers and hundreds of other items their friendly cries for trade made a very colorful spectacle. Leslie Harradine created the first street vendor figure in 1929 The Old Balloon Seller and the series of colorful characters has been a favorite among collectors ever since.
