An intricate black choicer necklace accentuates the lustrous shade of her dark brunette hair and complements her festive full skirted gown with its soft charcoal black embroidered decoration. 
Royal Doulton's designers have been inspired by the iconic lyrics and images presented by well known Christmas songs to create a series of elegant petite figurines. Graceful, stylish and wrapped up against the winter chill the figurines reflect a timeless tradition that harks back to the Victorian Age. Carols were originally songs with a chorus or refrain that accompanied a dance but over the centuries the meaning of the word became more specific and described songs or hymns expressing religious joy, especially at Christmas. Carols and Christmas songs have continued to evolve and now also reflect the witty and more secular aspects of the season. Joy to the World is an early carol dating back to 1719. The lyrics were written by Isaac Watts a prolific carol and hymn writer and the tune is thought to have been originally composed by Handel. However, in 1839 the American composer Lowell Mason rearranged the tune to the one that is so well known today.
