Special Bond is a delightful study of a father and son. The father gathers his young child close to him as they share a tender moment.
Pauline has been working for Royal Doulton for over 25 years - ever since leaving Manchester School of Art as a sculpture graduate. During this time she has worked as a freelance sculptor combining her creative work with raising a family. Pauline works in a precise way making sure that the underlying structure is accurate because this gives shape to the finished figure; she ensures that every bone and every muscle is correctly and sensitively formed. Only when this is exact will Pauline begin to dress her figure, literally adding clay to the naked form she has already created. This can be seen in many of the designs that she has produced for Royal Doulton, especially in the "Sisters" piece. This classic style has inspired further extensions to the image range, with representations that show true sentiment and the loving bond that families have for each other.
Images figurines, by Royal Doulton, capture emotions and special moments in bone china. A great gift idea for yourself or others, they are so eminently collectable. Inspired by the avant-garde work of Henry Moore and his contemporary Barbara Hepworth, the Images range began under the then sculptural Art Director Eric Griffiths in 1981. The earliest classic examples of an approach that combines pure minimalist form and maximum emotive impact include Contemplation by Peggy Davies, Lovers by Douglas Tootle, and Family by Eric himself. Originally modelled in glazed white bone china the range soon embraced matt black basalt - even flambé - and subsequently expanded to include Images of Nature and Figure of the Year. Images continue to be valued as gift ideas that convey the lasting ties of family and friendship
