Lesser & Pavey Leonardo Collection William Morris Pimpernel Mugs Set of 2 Leonardo Collection William Morris Pimpernel Mugs Set of 2

The Leonardo Collection William Morris design Mugs x 2 Made from quality Fine China with gloss glaze. Morris designed pimpernel in 1876 and later chose it to decorate his dining room at Kelmscote House in Hamersmith London. The design is an almost symetrical pattern of entwined pale green foilage and pimpernel plants with small yellow flowers. These stunning pale green foilage decorated mugs are practical as well as stylish, with a stunning Floral green colour, to enhance your dining table. William Morris was a British textile designer, poet, novelist, translator, and socialist activist. Associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement, he was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. William Morris is recognised as one of the most significant cultural figures of Victorian Britain; though best known in his lifetime as a poet, he posthumously became better known for his designs. Compton was William Morris' last design for his house, 'Compton', outside Wolverhampton, in which William Morris was redesigning the interior in 1896. The original design required two sets of wood blocks to print all 28 colours owing to the large vertical repeating pattern. Both were executed as a wallpaper and as a printed textile.  William Morris 24 March 1834 - 3 October 1896
