Millennium of Tynwald 979~1979
Myles Standish and the Mayflower
Queen`s Ware Compotier
MYLES STANDISH (CA 1584-1656)
Little is known of Myles Standish`s early lie, other than that he probably came from Lancashire England. He was hired by the Leiden Pilgrims to manage the military defences of the prospective colony in the new world, and although not a member of the Leiden congregation, he quickly became a loyal supporter of the pilgrin venture. He narried Rose Standish, a cousin from the Isle of Man, and she sailed wiuth him and his fellow pilgrim fathers on the Mayflower. They founded New Plymouth, but life was so severe that Rose died. Myles wrote to her sister Barbara Standish and married her when she joined hin in 1623.
