Royal Doulton Duchess of York HN3086 Royal Doulton Heirloom Bridal Figure Duchess of York HN3086 Royal Doulton Heirloom Bridal Figure
A magnificent occasion remembered

The Duchess of York looks absolutely stunning Dressed in her white wedding gown, on her special day

Royal Doulton has always taken special pride in commemorating royal events with fine bone china works of art. It is part of the company's 170-years-old heritage a tradition now continued with this magnificent portrait study of the lovely new Duchess of York, which was originally offered exclusively to Lawleys by Post collectors. As a rare and prestigious heirloom figure, this figure will commemorate the splendid Royal Wedding day, 23rd ]uly 1986, and that special moment when the bride emerged on her husband's arm, after signing the register. Her bridal veil was lifted and the floral head dress removed to reveal a sparkling tiara.

Painstaking attention to detail has been used in the careful sketching, modelling, firing, glazing and hand-painting which have been the responsibility of the figure's creator, Eric Griffiths, Royal Doultons Director of Ceramic Sculpture. The figure has been formed using white and ivory fine bone china. The gown, originally in ivory Duchess Satin, cascades in flowing fullness and is beautifully decorated with fine raised detailing. The back shows that glorious fanshaped bow and the train has been artistically represented in folds, giving an impression of the delicate edging of bows and hearts. The sleeves also have relief decoration and even the tiny gold wedding ring can be seen. The bouquet is a miniature  masterpiece, created entirely by hand, and the face of each figure is individually hand-painted to create a unique expression of the bride's joy. All of this lavish detail typifies the unsurpassed style established by Royal Doulton.

In a world where old fashioned values seems to be long gone, a tradition of craftsmanship still lives on in the Royal Doulton studios in which these figures are created. The artists and sculptors, potters and decorators, employ many of the same tried and tested techniques as their predecessors and use only the highest quality material such as fine bone china, natural pigments and deep lustre glaze
