Royal Doulton Diana Princess of Wales HN5061 Royal Doulton Pretty Ladies Figurine Diana Princess of Wales HN5061 Royal Doulton Pretty Ladies Figurine
The late Diana, Princess of Wales was born Lady Diana Frances Spencer on 1st July 1961 in Norfolk. Lady Diana Spencer's friendship with Charles, the Prince of Wales, first in line to the British throne, grew in 1980, and on the 24th February 1981 it was announced that Lady Diana Spencer was to marry the Prince of Wales. She was the first Englishwoman to marry an heir to the throne in over 300 years. They were married on 29th July 1981, at St Paul's Cathedral, London. During her marriage the Princess undertook a wide range of royal duties. Family was very important to the Princess, who had two sons: Prince William and Prince Henry (Harry). After her divorce from The Prince of Wales, the Princess continued to be regarded as a member of the Royal Family. Right until the end of her life she was involved with charities working to help children, homeless people and AIDS sufferers, as well as with the campaign to ban land mines. On 31 August 1997 Diana was tragically killed in a car accident in the Pont de I'Alma road tunnel in Paris. Pretty Ladies have always been one Royal Doulton's most popular ranges of collectable china ornaments. Also known as Fair Ladies, they are a long-established part of the portfolio, beginning their modern life in 1913 at the start of the HN Series of figures. Today, Pretty Ladies are the epitome of a bygone age of elegance and romance, and have become collectable as much for individual artistry as well as set ranges. Often characterised by the toe peeping out from a swirling dress, their appeal can come from a romantic name or a beautiful gown. They are handmade from bone china, individually decorated by hand, which contributes both to the collectability and the lasting allure of Royal Doulton Pretty Ladies. Modeller, Tim Potts, has recreated Princess Diana in all her beauty in this wonderful Royal Doulton figurine to commemorate the Princess's life.
